City of Florence to Begin N. Church Street & Oakland Avenue Stormwater Improvement Project

FLORENCE, SC- The City of Florence has been awarded grant funding from the South Carolina Office of Resilience (SCOR) for the N. Church Street and Oakland Avenue stormwater enhancement project. This project will improve the existing stormwater system along the Oakland Avenue and Norfolk Street corridors. Construction is expected to begin in mid-to-late September with completion expected in early summer 2027.
The project will consist of the installation of larger stormwater pipes, new catch basins, and other drainage improvements. These enhancements are designed to address localized flooding that can occur during periods of heavy rainfall.
The construction project area includes Oakland Avenue from Layton Street to Norfolk Street, and Norfolk Street from Oakland Avenue to Brand Street.
Construction will take place within the roadways and is expected to require temporary lane closures, traffic detours, and other construction-related impacts. Residents and motorists traveling through the project area are encouraged to use caution around construction activities.
