The Advanced Class III Police Officer-Animal Control Officer performs labor and technical services to enforce animal related laws ordinances and provides services to protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare. Under the specific direction of the Chief of Police, Advanced Class III Police Officers are assigned to the Community Services Division. Advanced Class III Police Officers follow the guidelines established by the Division Commander and are responsible to safeguard people, protect property in government buildings, provide security in a courtroom, transport prisoners and mental patients, and administrative support to police operations; perform the full range of field and office work in their assigned position in Community Services Division; responsible to provide input on prevention, intervention and enforcement strategies; responsible to ensure the proper enforcement of all Federal Laws, State Laws, City Ordinances, and departmental policies and procedures.

Entry level position under direct or general supervision, the Administrative Services Specialist I follows the guidelines established by the Administrative Services Manager and the Administrative Services Supervisor; learns and performs a variety of non-sworn responsibilities to support the Police Department and its mission; is responsible for answering and directing calls for varying services provided by the Police Department and other City Departments; responds to officers and their supervisors in the field requesting assistance; responds to the needs of City officials, other agencies and the general public; and performs all other work as required.

The Police Cadet follows the guidelines established by the Support Services Manager and the Training Unit Supervisor. Cadets will learn and perform a variety of non-sworn responsibilities to support the Police Department and its mission, including answering and directing calls for varying services provided by the Police Department and other City Departments. Cadets will receive training in traffic control, parking enforcement, and familiarize themselves with the legal standards which police operate under to prepare for pre-academy training. Upon the cadet turning twenty (20) years old, they will begin instruction offered through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and be required to pass certain examinations prior to turning twenty-one (21). This position is for persons who have a strong interest or desire to pursue a full-time career as a Certified Officer.

Under direct or general supervision, the Crime Analyst follows the guidelines established by the Administrative Services Manager and the I.T. Unit supervisor, learns and performs a variety of non-sworn responsibilities to support the Police Department and its mission, and is responsible for operating within the Real Time Crime Center to disseminate critical information during ongoing incidents and developing situations. Responsibilities include piloting department drones to respond to calls for service, relaying pertinent information regarding ongoing incidents, and generating crime data for department use.
