FLORENCE, SC – The City of Florence is pleased to announce the selection of Angela M. Greene as the new Chief of Police for the Florence Police Department (FPD). An Investiture Ceremony is planned for Monday, March 23, 2026, at 3:00pm, in City Council Chambers, on the 1st Floor at the City Center, 324 W. Evans Street. The public is invited to attend.

Ms. Greene will begin her post with the FPD on April 1, 2026, and is an experienced law enforcement leader with over twenty years of service in Virginia.  Throughout her career, she has earned a reputation for strengthening police agencies, lowering crime rates, and building trust through effective community involvement and teamwork. She started her law enforcement career in 2001 with the Richmond Police Department. During her time there, she advanced through the ranks to Captain, leading various operational units and gaining extensive experience in patrol, investigations, and strategic crime-reduction efforts.

In 2016, she was appointed Assistant Chief of Police for the Portsmouth Police Department, where she oversaw Uniform Patrol Operations and Special Operations, including SWAT, Civil Disturbance Team, Traffic, Street Crimes, School Resource Officers, K-9, Mounted Patrol, Marine Patrol, Auxiliary Officers, and Police Chaplains.

Ms. Greene was later appointed Chief of Police for the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, where she led a department of approximately 259 sworn officers, 20 auxiliary officers, and 75 civilian personnel. During her tenure, she implemented targeted crime-reduction strategies and expanded community engagement initiatives, strengthening partnerships between the police department and the community.

In 2021, she was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Lexington, Virginia. During her tenure, Chief Greene prioritized transparency, accountability, and building collaborative partnerships with community stakeholders, local government, and the city’s higher education institutions. Her leadership centered on enhancing organizational professionalism and increasing public trust in policing.

Following her service in Lexington, Ms. Greene was chosen to serve as the Director of Organized Retail Crime for the Virginia Attorney General’s Office, where she coordinated statewide efforts among law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and private-sector partners to dismantle organized retail theft networks.

She has a Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Law and Political Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Master of Public Administration from Old Dominion University. She is currently working for her doctorate in Public Administration at Liberty University.

She is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Command Course, one of the top executive leadership programs for law enforcement leaders. In 2025, she received the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Presidential Award for her leadership and contributions to law enforcement.

Ms. Greene has also served the Commonwealth in several professional leadership roles, including an appointment by the Governor to the Virginia Maternal Mortality Review Team, serving as 3rd Vice President of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, acting as Commissioner on the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, and serving as Vice Chair of the Cardinal Criminal Justice Regional Training Academy.

City Manager, Scotty Davis, shared “We are proud to welcome our new Police Chief to the city’s leadership team. After an extensive search, it became clear that we have selected a candidate that will carry on the department’s established values of transparency, accountability, and strong community partnerships. Angela Greene brings a proven record of service, integrity, and innovation, and I am confident that with her leadership, the Florence Police Department will continue to build trust and strengthen public safety for our city”.
