FLORENCE, SC –   The City of Florence is actively preparing for the expected inclement weather and extreme cold temperatures over the coming week.  While no closures are currently anticipated, delays in city services and facility operations may occur depending on the impact of the storm.

City departments including Police, Fire, Public Works, and Utilities are on standby and ready to respond to any necessary weather-related needs.  Residents and businesses with inquiries related to Public Works or water/sewer services, please call 843-665-3236. For non-emergency concerns, contact the Police Department at 843-665-3191. In the event of an emergency, please dial 9-1-1.

The city urges all residents and business owners to take precautions ahead of the extreme weather. Be sure to protect water pipes, secure your property, and use safe heating methods to prevent fires or injuries. Additionally, residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors, especially the elderly or disabled, during the colder days ahead.

Garbage collection services will proceed as usual on Monday, January 26, 2026, with both residential and commercial routes being serviced, following an assessment of road conditions to ensure the safety of our Sanitation Division personnel.

Due to the potential for hazardous road conditions, the Florence Police Department strongly advises limiting travel unless absolutely necessary, particularly from Saturday evening into Sunday.

Additional city closures are as follows:

  • The Jayne H. Boswell Animal Shelter will be closed to the public on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
  • The Adult Basketball League at Pearl Moore Gym is cancelled on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

For real-time updates on any changes to city services or facility schedules, please visit the City of Florence website at www.cityofflorencesc.gov or follow the City’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/cityofflorence/.

Please remember, for water/sewer inquiries, and non-emergency concerns, call the appropriate numbers listed above. City social media accounts are not monitored 24/7. In case of emergency, dial 9-1-1.

As information, the city has identified the following agencies who are providing warming shelters:

  • The Courtney McGinnis Graham Community Shelter (535 W. Church Street) will open as a daytime warming shelter whenever temperatures fall below 40 degrees, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  If overnight sheltering is needed, the shelter will transition to overnight accommodations. Check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
  • The Manna House of Florence (450 Jarrott Street) will open on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 5:00pm and will remain open until 7:00am on Monday morning, January 26, 2026.  If necessary, the warming shelter will re-open on Monday, January 26th at 5:00pm and remain open until 7:00am on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
