FLORENCE, SC – A contractor for the City of Florence will begin construction on the Hoffmeyer Road sewer line repair project on Monday, October 12, 2026. To minimize disruptions to daytime traffic, construction activities will take place during overnight hours, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Traffic control measures will be implemented only in areas where crews are actively working and will move as construction progresses. Traffic control will not extend throughout the entire project area at once. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution when traveling through the area and allow additional travel time as needed.

The project will begin with a comprehensive inspection and assessment of the existing sewer main to evaluate its condition and identify necessary repairs. This initial inspection is expected to take approximately three to five days to complete.

Based on preliminary investigations, the project will involve approximately two to three localized repairs, known as point repairs, which require excavation and replacement of specific sections of the sewer main. Following these repairs, crews will proceed with trenchless sewer line rehabilitation, a method designed to repair or replace underground infrastructure while minimizing surface disruption.

Depending on the condition of the existing sewer main, trenchless repairs will involve either pipe bursting to install new high-density polyethylene (HDPE) piping or installing an epoxy fiberglass liner within the existing pipe.

Following the initial inspection, the city will provide additional updates regarding the necessary repairs and anticipated project completion date.

The City of Florence appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents and motorists as crews work to improve the reliability and functionality of the City's sewer infrastructure.
