🚧 PROJECT UPDATE | Hoffmeyer Road Sewer Project The City of Florence is moving forward with the Hoffmeyer Road Sewer Project, with construction anticipated to begin following the bid and award process. 📅 Project Timeline: • Bid Opening: August 20, 2026 • Seven-Day Protest Period Ends: August 27, 2026 • Anticipated Bid Award: August 27, 2026 • Construction Schedule: Approximately 90 days • Anticipated Completion: Winter 2026 📍 Construction Area: Work will take place along Hoffmeyer Road from the Five Points intersection to the Darlington Street intersection, primarily within the roadway median. 📣 Details: The City of Florence will be contracting with a general contractor to complete necessary repairs to the sewer main along the Hoffmeyer Road corridor from Five Points north to Darlington Street. The project will include point repairs, where the contractor will be required to open dig the sewer main at certain points to conduct the needed repairs. However, the majority of the work will be completed using a “cured-in-place”, or “trenchless pipe replacement” method. This trenchless approach will re-line the existing sewer main without requiring extensive excavation along the corridor. By minimizing traditional construction, the city hopes to reduce disruptions and limit impacts to residents and those traveling along Hoffmeyer Road while these important infrastructure improvements are completed. At the Florence City Council meeting on August 10, 2026, Charlie Barrineau, Senior Field Services Manager with the Municipal Association of South Carolina (MASC), presented the City of Florence with two statewide honors: the Municipal Achievement Award and the Excellence on Main Street Award. The City of Florence received the Municipal Achievement Award for its innovative approach to public safety, highlighting the City’s use of technology, teamwork, and community trust to enhance public safety efforts. Main Street South Carolina also recognized Downtown Florence with the Excellence on Main Street Award for the Pine Street Townhomes project, which supports continued residential growth and revitalization.
